Scott Davis is a well-known technology executive, entrepreneur, corporate advisor and vExpert. He is EVP of Product Engineering & Chief Technology Officer at Embotics, a Cloud Automation and Management company where he drives product engineering, technology strategy and advanced development. He also serves on the advisory boards of Opvizor, Calgary Scientific and Infinio. Davis spent seven years at VMware, most recently as CTO of the company’s End-User Computing Business Unit where he was instrumental in building that $1B business. Scott also served as VMware’s Chief Data Center & Storage Architect. A recognized expert in virtualization, clustering, operating systems, cloud computing, file systems, storage, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), graphics protocols and mobility/EMM, Mr. Davis has held senior engineering and business management roles with both startup ventures and established industry firms. Earlier roles included President and Founder of Virtual Iron Software, which was acquired by Oracle as the core of OracleVM and VP/CTO at Mangosoft, an Internet software and storage company with pioneering peer-to-peer clustering, caching and file system products. Scott began his career at Digital Equipment Corporation where he was Technical Director for the industry-acclaimed VAXCluster and VMS Volume Shadowing products, as well as DEC’s Windows NT clustering (later sold to Microsoft as the genesis of Microsoft ‘Wolfpack’ Cluster Server). Scott holds 17 US patents for clustering, storage, virtualization and EUC technologies and his products have won awards at Comdex, Demo, and LinuxWorld.
In his roles at VMware, Mr. Davis was a public facing executive leader, product/solution strategist and expert technologist. He founded and led the EUC CTO Office and was responsible for numerous advanced development initiatives such as Unity Touch (User Interface Virtualization), View Agent Direct Connect (DaaS/Desktop as a Service enablement), AppBlast (HTML5 Application Remoting) and Octopus/Horizon Data (Enterprise-grade file synch), as well as influencing/driving product release contents. His influence on EUC product and solution strategy has been impactful; significantly contributing to 10x revenue growth over 4 years. He was active in corporate development and partnership initiatives including championing the acquisition and integration of both Wanova and Desktone, and driving and facilitating collaboration on jointly developed solutions with Google, Cisco, EMC, NetApp, Dell/Equallogic, etc. A popular speaker, Mr. Davis delivered numerous keynotes and sessions at industry forums.
